What to Look for in a Sober Living? RED FLAGS (Part 1)

What to Look for in a Sober Living? RED FLAGS (Part 1)

Facing a substance use disorder is brave. Addiction and overdose rates in Southern California and the rest of the country are skyrocketing. If one of your goals is sobriety, a sober living can help you achieve that while you regain your independence. A sober living that drug tests should be top of mind and here’s why:

As you know, accountability is crucial in early recovery and we addicts are experts at avoiding accountability. Therefore, an outside mechanism of accountability can be helpful and isn’t something you should sleep on.

A quality sober living can help keep you accountable. But as you know, all sober houses are NOT created equally.

This brings us to Sober Living RED FLAG #1:

No Regular Drug Tests or Alcohol Screenings

Drug and Alcohol Screening in Sober LIvings

Stepping into a sober living home for the first time can be an unnerving experience. Anything that increases feelings of certainty and stability are only going to improve your chances of success.  Confidence that your housemates in a sober living house are indeed sober can give you those feelings of stability. The best way to know this for certain is to drug test, randomly and regularly.

A high-quality sober living will test EVERYONE regularly. They will test when behavior indicates a person may have used or drank and they will test at random. Urine analysis cups and breathalyzer tips cost money and a bad sober living will try to save money by testing less often. If a sober living you’re considering can’t tell you how often they test or what alcohol/drug testing products or labs they use…run, baby, run!

La Peer House maintains regular and random testing schedules.  We use industry standard cups that test for meth, opiates, THC, etc. Additionally, we use an EXTRA product to test for fentanyl. Call us today and so do many other sober livings in Los Angeles and Southern California. Choose one of those.
